FAQ's

What type of vehicle can tow a Travel Trailer?

You will need at least a ½ ton chassis on your vehicle if you wish to tow most travel trailers. Some trailers require larger tow vehicles, but not in our fleet where the heaviest unit weighs < 5000 lbs.

What do I need to pull a Travel Trailer?

You will need a vehicle large enough to pull the trailer (see above), the proper wiring with a standard 7 pronged RV adapter plug, a 2" receiver, and an electronic brake controller. Without these items, RV Rentals of Idaho will not allow our units to leave our facility. Wiring must be in working order and it is recommended that your vehicle is pre-inspected a week or more prior to your departure.

What do I need to pull a Tent Trailer?

You will need a vehicle with a towing capacity > 2000 lbs., operating electrical plug in the rear of your vehicle, and a standard receiver.

How far in advance should I make my reservation?

We normally are booked 2 months in advance for our motorhomes, and 6-8 weeks for our travel and tent trailers.

I have never driven a RV before, do I need a special license?

A valid operator’s license is sufficient to drive a motorhome. An additional endorsement on your license is a definite bonus. We recommend that if you are apprehensive about driving our units, to come in advance and we will offer a free 20-30 minute driving "lesson." We are more comfortable when you are!

Do you offer airport pickup?

We have a free shuttle service from the airport with the following stipulations: Flight must arrive during normal hours of operation (9AM (MT) – 4PM (MT)), flight must arrive on the date of departure, flight schedules and changes to schedules need to be forwarded to our staff at least 2 weeks in advance.

Where is travel allowed and prohibited?

Your are prohibited from taking our rentals to Mexico, on "non-paved" surfaces, or ferryboats. You can take our rentals anywhere in the contiguous 48 and Canada (mileage charges may apply).

What type of insurance will I need?

For motorhomes you will need to have full-coverage insurance, either through your auto insurance carrier or through our carrier (MBA Choice). Proof of insurance is required in advance.

For tent and travel trailers your liabilities on your tow-vehicle need to extend to items being towed by said vehicle. Proof of insurance is required in advance.

What is the Dealer Verification number for insurance?

The number is 301054.

What is the Series number for insurance?

Series depicts the type of unit you will be renting. For Class A motorhomes please choose "Series 2". For Class C motorhomes please choose "Series 1".

Can I tow my boat, car or utility trailer with a RV?

We do allow towing with our units under the following conditions; your insurance must be provided by your auto-policy, the item being towed is properly set-up and is within the GVWR of the vehicle, and you pay the additional tow fee.

What is an electronic brake controller?

An electronic brake controller is an after-market device that is installed to operate the electric brakes of the travel trailer. This device is usually found under the dashboard on the driver’s side of the cab wired to a routing box up under the instrument panel. In order to tow any travel trailer this device must be installed and tested to ensure proper function.
